DALLAS, Jan. 13, 2016 — OnMessage, a messaging infusion company, kicked off the New Year by fighting hunger. The company’s Dallas location donated 1,309 pounds of canned food to the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB), a nonprofit hunger relief organization, providing access to 1,091 meals for food insecure children, families and seniors across North Texas.

This effort marks the seventh consecutive year that OnMessage has collected and donated more than 1,000 canned goods to NTFB. The cans were collected by employees during a canned food drive in November, and used to “can-struct” a Christmas tree that remained in the company’s lobby during the holidays. The cans were donated to NTFB earlier this month.

“Hunger is a serious issue that impacts thousands of North Texans,” said Jim O’Gara, president and founder of OnMessage. “We are proud to raise awareness and make a difference for people in our communities.”

According to the USDA, 14 percent of U.S. households are food insecure, which means they do not have reliable access to nutritional and safe food. While 59 percent of food insecure households report participating in federal assistance programs, such as SNAP, it’s not enough to keep 48 million children, families and seniors going hungry, or from being forced to choose between paying for groceries and paying for utilities, medicine, education or transportation.

“It is always a humble pleasure to work with such dedicated individuals in pursuit of solving the far too urgent problem of hunger in our communities,” said Doyle Carnahan, Retail Support Specialist for NTFB. “OnMessage’s compassion and hard work are greatly appreciated by more people than you know.”
